Slips

The potential for slipping is all around, with each and every step you take. Here’s  my most encounter with a slip and what I learned from it.

I was enjoying time with family and friends on a boat. We were anchored with a few other boats that were tied up to us. It was a wonderful time, nice weather, good water and great company.

I decided to visit with others on another boat so I was stepping from swim platform to swim platform on different boats.  Then, out of no-where I slipped on one of the swim platforms. That slip resulted in a sprained left foot with two bone fractures. Even though I thought I was careful, it was obvious that I was not careful enough. An accident can occur within a split second.

In hindsight  what could I have done differently. After some reflection of the incident, I could have assessed the swim platforms before taking a step on them. It became apparent that the swim platform I slipped on did not have any non-skid material to prevent slips. Had I looked carefully, before stepping, I would have noticed that the platform was likely slippery. I could have made the appropriate adjustments to prevent the slip.

It’s important to be aware of your surroundings all the time. It can only take a second and a fun time can turn into a serious injury situation. There are times accidents are out of your control; however, you have the ability to do your best to be aware of your surroundings should that “what if” accident comes your way. Know where you are stepping each foot, with each step, and prevent a slip.
