Mold is a Home Health Hazard

Mold is a fungus that is common throughout our environment, both indoors and outdoors. Mold travels about in the air as a spore, they are light weight and extremely small, only visible under a microscope. When the spores land on a moist surface they can begin to grow resulting into a typical blemished looking dark surface in moisture laden areas within your home such as: bathrooms, basements and/or water damaged areas.

Mold can affect the health of an individual, and every individual responds differently to mold. Individuals who are prone to respiratory conditions and/or allergies may suffer reactions to mold as well as individuals who have a sensitivity to mold. Mold can lead to more serious ailments; therefore, it’s in your best interest to keep your home healthy, eliminate as much as you possibly can of having mold grow in your home and if mold is present, remove it.

Keep Mold From Growing in Your Home:

  • Inspect it periodically for water leaks from plumbing, any water damage from rain and/or flooding, or condensation within the home.
  • It’s imperative to fix the leaks as quickly as possible whether around windows, plumbing fixtures, etc., thoroughly clean and dry the wet areas.
  • Control the humidity levels though ventilation or measures to absorb the moisture.
    • Humidity levels should be between 30% and 50%
    • Use an air conditioner or dehumidifier
    • Use exhaust fans that vent outside, ensure your clothes dryer vents outside

How to Remove Mold From Your Home:

Typically, mold abatement companies will insist that complete removal of the mold affected areas is the only method to remove mold in affected areas such as: carpet, insulation, ceiling tiles and drywall. That may or may not be true, it depends on a host of variables, mostly the amount of moisture that affected an area and the amount of mold growth.

We’ve had good success with a product, Mold Bomb Fogger, an EPA Registered product that kills mold. It’s a lot less expensive than hiring an abatement company. Check it out here: https://biocidelabs.com/mold-bomb-fogger/  Try it first, if it doesn’t do an effective job then hire an abatement company.
