The kitchen is one of the leading causes of house fires. The main culprit is the stove’s burners. Leaving a burner on, unattended is a risk. A fire can breakout rapidly and spread throughout the house simply from leaving pots or pans on the burner. They can get too hot, once the liquid has dissipated, and burst into flame. So, always double check your stove and unsure it is off when you leave your home or you leave the kitchen area. If the burner is on, you must be near it, do not go and do other chores away from the kitchen area. Also, ensure you have workable smoke detectors in the kitchen and throughout the home. Additionally, have a fire extinguisher that is fully charged and easily accessible. Should a fire breakout and you’re unable put the flames out with the extinguisher, evacuate and call 911. It’s a good rule-of-thumb to call 911 for any type of fire in the home, even if you managed to get it out. Fire fighters can ensure there are no hidden embers that can burst into flame later.
